As students, faculty, staff, and alumni, we are calling on UBC to be a leader in addressing climate change.
Humanity confronts a grave and urgent crisis in climate change, and immediate dramatic actions are required. We have a moral duty to act.
While UBC has made some great strides on climate change, these efforts are deeply undermined because the administration insists on continuing to invest in the full scale of the fossil fuel industry.
Divest the Rest
While we have reached a huge victory in driving UBC to create a $10 million fossil free fund, we know that divesting less than 1% of UBC's endowment does not constitute meaningful action on climate change. We are continuing to advocate for the full divestment that UBC students and faculty voted for.
The Kinder Morgan pipeline is incompatible with Canada's climate commitments and responsibility to respecting Indigenous rights and title. We are mobilizing students against the project through rallies, fundraisers and personal bank divestment actions.
UBC's Next Century
UBC's next strategic plan will shape the university's priorities, values and decisions for years to come. We are collaborating with eleven other student groups to ensure that UBC makes bold commitments for sustainability leadership in the new strategic plan.
