We want UBC to be a leader in addressing climate change.
While UBC calls itself a global leader in "advancing a civil and sustainable society," its investments in the fossil fuel industry directly support the status quo of climate inaction, rather than supporting steps towards a more sustainable future for the UBC community. Demonstrating excellence in “all aspects of economic, environmental, and social sustainability” necessitates that UBC divest from fossil fuels.
Help us call for climate action and help UBC!
Join UBCC350 and help us convince UBC to strengthen its climate commitments. We welcome all students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to join the campaign!
Pledge to divest your personal holdings from fossil fuels. Consider closing accounts with banks that finance tar sands and pipelines, including CIBC, RBC, Scotiabank and TD and opening fossil free investment accounts, such as CoPower Green Bonds, Vancity’s Global Equity Fund or one of Genus Capital’s portfolios.
Whether you're an alumni, student, staff, faculty or community member, we'd love to have you join our team! You are always welcome to join our meetings on Wednesday, 6pm-7pm, at AMS Resource Lounge (Nest Room 2102) to chat about divestment, find out about our current campaigns and join our working group teams.
We operate through a distributed leadership model and welcome new members to take charge of initiatives that excite them. We also have a standing offer to sit down one-on-one with anyone interested in our group to answer any questions and discuss ways to get involved.
